Age Play

Age Regression

Age regression is a practice in which an adult consciously and voluntarily shifts their mindset, behavior, and emotional state to that of a younger version of themselves, typically a child or toddler. This can be a purely psychological and emotional experience, a sexual one, or both, depending on the individuals involved. Common elements include using a younger name or nickname, engaging with toys, coloring books, or stuffed animals, speaking in a younger voice, and being cared for by a partner who takes on a nurturing role (often called a caregiver, daddy, mommy, or similar). Age regression exists on a spectrum: some people use it primarily for stress relief and emotional comfort with no sexual component, while for others it is integrated into erotic play. When it overlaps with sexual activity, it is categorized under age play. Importantly, age regression always involves consenting adults. No actual minors are involved, and the practice is entirely distinct from any real-world harm. Practitioners often describe the experience as grounding, comforting, or emotionally restorative.

Safety & consent

Clear negotiation before any session is essential, including defining what age range feels right, what caregiving behaviors are welcome, and whether sexual activity is included. Because regression can involve a vulnerable emotional state, both partners should agree on a safeword or signal that works even if the regressed partner is not speaking normally. Aftercare is especially important here, as returning to an adult headspace can take time. Caregivers should check in after sessions. Anyone using regression primarily for emotional coping should also maintain access to other support resources.

How to bring it up

  1. Prompt 1"I've been curious about age regression as a way to feel cared for and let go of stress. Is that something you'd be open to exploring?"
  2. Prompt 2"Would you ever want to try a dynamic where one of us takes on a nurturing caregiver role while the other gets to be a bit more little and playful?"
  3. Prompt 3"I've read about age play and I think the idea of regressing to a younger headspace with a trusted partner appeals to me. Can we talk about what that might look like for us?"
