Pet play is consensual role-play among adults who enjoy an animal persona, a pet and handler dynamic, or both. People may explore it alone, with a partner, or with other consenting adults. A handler is optional, and choosing a pet role does not automatically mean choosing submission. Animal interests can include puppy or dog, kitten or cat, pony or horse, wolf, fox, bunny or rabbit, and cow play. People may enjoy several roles or none of these particular animals. Pet Play is a separate catalog category from Fantasy, which covers interests such as fictional creatures and transformations. Someone can enjoy either category or both.
A scene might involve affectionate petting, scritches, praise, a chosen pet name, affectionate, playful speech directed to an adult partner in a pet role, or simply relaxing in an animal persona. Others enjoy agreed training, treats and rewards, movement, or wearing ears, tails, hoods or paw mitts. These are separate preferences, and none is required to make a role valid.
A person can be an affectionate puppy, a playful wolf, a handler interested in several animal roles, or someone who changes roles. Training and affection do not determine an animal type. Titles, restraint, rules and submission can overlap with pet play when the people involved choose them. Intelligence degradation is a separate, explicitly negotiated interest, not a requirement for a simple pet mindset.
Agree on roles, language, touch, activities, gear and limits before starting. Each activity needs its own consent: enjoying a pet name or praise does not imply consent to restraints, degradation, rules or a power exchange. Keep a clear way to pause or stop, including a nonverbal signal if helpful. Anyone can speak normally or leave character at any time. Check comfort and fit when using collars, masks, mitts or other gear, and stop if something hurts or makes communication difficult. Plan how gear can be removed promptly and discuss aftercare. All participants are consenting adults playing roles; actual animals are never participants.
