Age Play

Punishment / Time Out

Punishment or time-out play is a subset of age play in which one or more participants role-plays a disciplinary scenario. One person typically takes an authority figure role (parent, guardian, caregiver) and another takes a younger or subordinate role. The 'punishment' may involve being sent to a corner, being grounded, losing privileges, being lectured, or other non-sexual or mildly erotic forms of correction. The appeal often centers on power exchange, the psychological dynamic of accountability and forgiveness, a sense of structure, or the experience of regression to a simpler emotional state. The actual content of the punishment is negotiated in advance and does not have to involve physical discipline. This kink exists on a spectrum from purely emotional and theatrical to more physically involved scenarios. Like all age play, it is practiced between consenting adults and does not involve or imply any real-world harm.

Safety & consent

Detailed negotiation before the scene is essential. Both parties should agree on the specific type of punishment, any physical contact involved, hard limits, and a clear safeword or stop signal. Emotional aftercare is particularly important here, as disciplinary dynamics can stir up real childhood memories or feelings of shame. Check in with each other after the scene ends. Avoid scenes that humiliate in ways not explicitly agreed upon, and never use punishment play to address real relationship conflicts.

How to bring it up

  1. Prompt 1"I've been curious about age play scenes where one person plays an authority figure and gives the other a time-out or some kind of correction. Is that something you'd be open to exploring?"
  2. Prompt 2"Would you ever want to try a role-play where you're in charge and I have to answer to you for breaking a rule? I'm interested in that kind of structured dynamic."
  3. Prompt 3"I've read about punishment scenes in age play and I think the power exchange aspect appeals to me. Can we talk about what that might look like for us?"
