Power Exchange

Bondage (Heavy)

Heavy bondage refers to restraint play that goes beyond basic wrist or ankle ties to involve extensive, full-body, or highly restrictive binding. This typically includes techniques such as full-body rope work (commonly associated with Japanese shibari or kinbaku), multiple-point restraint systems, strict leather or metal restraints, mummification with wrap materials, or suspension rigging. The defining characteristic is a significant reduction in the restrained person's ability to move, often involving careful limb positioning, sustained immobility, and prolonged periods of restriction. Heavy bondage can be practiced for its own sensory and psychological appeal, including the feelings of helplessness, surrender, and intense body awareness it produces, or as a component of broader power exchange dynamics. It requires considerable technical knowledge, especially when ropes or suspension are involved, because improper application can cause nerve damage, restricted circulation, or other physical harm. Both partners take on meaningful responsibilities in terms of preparation, communication, and ongoing monitoring throughout a scene.

Safety & consent

Heavy bondage carries real physical risks including nerve compression, circulation restriction, and joint stress, particularly in suspension or prolonged sessions. Establish clear safewords and check in frequently, as a restrained person may not be able to signal distress through movement. Keep safety scissors or quick-release tools accessible at all times. Learn proper technique from reputable sources before attempting complex ties. Avoid leaving a restrained person unattended. Discuss any health conditions, previous injuries, or anxiety concerns beforehand. Emotional aftercare is also important, as intense restraint can produce strong psychological responses.

How to bring it up

  1. Prompt 1"I've been curious about more intense restraint scenes, like full-body bondage or extended restriction. Is that something you'd want to explore together?"
  2. Prompt 2"Would you ever want to try heavy bondage, where movement is much more limited than basic ties? I'd want to talk through safety and boundaries first."
  3. Prompt 3"I've been reading about rope work and full-body restraint and I find it really appealing. Can we have a conversation about whether that fits into what we both want?"
