Power Exchange

Chastity

Chastity is a power exchange kink in which one person (the 'wearer') voluntarily restricts their own genital access, typically by wearing a chastity device such as a cage or belt, while another person (the 'keyholder') controls when and whether that access is granted. The dynamic centers on the psychological and relational aspects of sexual denial, control, and surrender. Chastity play can be practiced for short periods (hours or days) or extended timelines (weeks or months), and it does not require a physical device in all cases, as some practitioners use agreed-upon behavioral rules instead. The appeal commonly includes feelings of submission, heightened anticipation, intimacy through dependency, and the power dynamics that develop between the wearer and keyholder. Chastity is practiced across a wide range of relationship structures, from casual to committed, and does not imply any specific sexual orientation or gender identity.

Safety & consent

Physical devices must fit correctly to prevent circulation problems, skin irritation, or tissue damage. Regular check-ins and device removal for hygiene and inspection are essential. Establish clear safewords or signals that pause the dynamic immediately, regardless of agreed timelines. Discuss health conditions (such as diabetes or circulatory issues) before using physical devices. Emotionally, prolonged denial can affect mood and mental wellbeing, so ongoing honest communication about how both partners are experiencing the dynamic is critical. Have a plan for lost or inaccessible keys.

How to bring it up

  1. Prompt 1"I've been curious about chastity dynamics and the idea of giving a partner control in that way. Is that something you'd be open to exploring?"
  2. Prompt 2"Would you ever want to try a keyholder arrangement, where you decided when I was allowed sexual release?"
  3. Prompt 3"I've read about chastity play and I think the psychological side of it really appeals to me. Can we talk about what that might look like for us?"
