Power Exchange

Leash

A leash kink involves the use of a physical leash, typically attached to a collar or harness worn by one partner, as part of consensual power exchange play. The person holding the leash takes a dominant or guiding role, while the person wearing the collar or harness takes a submissive or led role. The leash serves as a tangible symbol of control, ownership, and connection between participants. This kink often overlaps with pet play, collaring dynamics, and general BDSM power exchange, though it can exist independently of those frameworks. Some people are drawn to the leash primarily for its symbolic meaning, the feeling of being directed or restrained, or the physical sensation of gentle tension. Others find the visual dynamic itself to be the main appeal. Leash play can range from very light and symbolic, such as wearing a leash during private scenes at home, to more active use involving guiding, restricting movement, or incorporating it into role-play scenarios. It is common in both casual kink exploration and established D/s (dominant and submissive) relationships.

Safety & consent

Never attach a leash directly to a collar around the neck in a way that could restrict the airway or cause sudden jerking pressure on the cervical spine. Dedicated safety collars or harnesses that distribute tension across the chest are much safer. Establish clear safewords before any scene. Discuss comfort levels around visibility, public versus private play, and how much physical guidance is acceptable. Watch for signs of distress, including difficulty breathing or unexpected emotional reactions, and check in with your partner regularly throughout and after the scene.
