Power Exchange

Domestic servitude

Domestic servitude is a power exchange dynamic in which one person (the servant or submissive) takes on household tasks and chores as an expression of service and deference to another person (the dominant or head of household). These tasks can include cleaning, cooking, laundry, running errands, or organizing the home. The dynamic may be practiced during a defined scene, on a part-time schedule, or as an ongoing lifestyle arrangement. Unlike simple division of household labor, domestic servitude is framed explicitly around power, with the tasks carrying symbolic or erotic significance for one or both parties. The servant typically follows rules, protocols, or instructions set by the dominant, and may wear specific clothing or adopt particular behaviors while in the role. The appeal varies: some find fulfillment in acts of service, others enjoy the control and care dynamic, and many enjoy both. This kink exists on a spectrum from occasional role-play to deeply integrated 24/7 relationships.

Safety & consent

Clear negotiation before starting is essential. Both parties should agree on which tasks are included, what hours or contexts apply, and what language or titles are used. Establish a safeword or check-in process so either person can pause or exit the dynamic without friction. Watch for signs that the arrangement is becoming exploitative rather than consensual, especially in live-in situations. Emotional labor and mental load should be acknowledged. Regular check-ins help both parties confirm the dynamic still feels good and equitable in its own terms.

How to bring it up

  1. Prompt 1"I've been curious about service-based dynamics where one person takes on household tasks as a form of power exchange. Is that something you'd want to explore?"
  2. Prompt 2"Would you ever want to try a scene where I act as your household servant, following your instructions for a set period of time?"
  3. Prompt 3"I find the idea of structured domestic service really appealing. I'd love to talk about what that could look like for us if you're open to it."
